Activities

We extend a warm welcome to family and friends to visit at any time, attend special events and to be a part of the home. At Craven Nursing Home we want you to be able to enjoy the things that are important to you. Our experienced Activities Team actively encourage and support residents to pursue their own interests and hobbies.

A varied calendar of activities ranging from musical entertainment, arts and crafts, table games and coffee mornings is provided along with seasonal events and entertainment. Our annual summer garden party is a firm favourite with our residents.

All our homes are signed up to the Oomph Wellness On Demand platform which compliments the existing activity provision and aims to promote wellbeing of body, mind and soul through a range of activities, exercise  and entertainment.

Trips Out

Organised outings are planned throughout the year, with reoccurring popular events, such as our boat trip on the Leeds Liverpool canal and a tour of the Christmas lights in Skipton and Ilkley.

Our dedicated minibus driver works across all four Spellman Care Homes, allowing residents to go on trips and attend external activities regularly.

Daily Life at Ghyll Royd

Activities

Every day is different here at Ghyll Royd Care Home, and residents can choose for it to be as restful or as eventful as they choose. We work hard with our residents to establish their own personal routine.

We have four dedicated Activity Coordinators who organise an activity programme for our residents. This varied programme helps to keep residents engaged and supports their well-being. Activities include music, reminiscence and sensory, as well as marking specific dates in the calendar with arts and crafts, special menus, and celebrations. We also spend each day talking about the daily news and engaging in one-to-one time with each resident.

We work hard to ensure that all our residents are included within our activities, regardless of their abilities. We apply a person-centred approach to our activities programme to ensure we are offering something to suit everyone in the Home.

Daily Life at Steeton Court

Activities

Daily life at Steeton Court is adapted to suit individual residents wants and requirements.

We have two Activities Coordinators who design a full programme of activities and events to suit our residents needs. Residents can take part in as little or as much as they want to within the home.

Every week, we have sessions for hairdressing and beauty to ensure that our residents can enjoy a pamper within our purpose-built salon.

Other activities which our residents enjoy include poetry, arts and crafts, knitting, board games, quizzes and gardening – with tea and cake along the way!

On a daily basis, our team also visit residents in their rooms, to spend some time 1:1 with them, and enjoy chats over a cup of tea! As we are a small home, we have a lovely community and residents enjoy spending time with each other.

We ensure that we include all our residents, regardless of their ability, in our activities – so if a resident is living with Dementia, we make sure we include them by adapting the activity to their needs. Also, on a day-to-day basis, we change any plans to make sure we meet the interests of the residents at that time.
